Set of 14 Stations $8000
After the suffering of the last five stations, the event of Veronica wiping the face of Jesus is like a pause, a drink of cool water. It offers compassion and a rather magical act of reciprocal love. Where Simon had to be called forth, Veronica willingly comes to Jesus’ aid. She doesn’t ask for anything… she just does what she sees is necessary. In return, she is given a gift of his likeness on her cloth. In a world without photography or Facebook, this would have been quite a keepsake!
In the English language, a “logo” is a symbol or representation of an idea or entity. One could say Jesus left a “logo” of himself on the cloth, a visual depicting his eternal being. In Greek the term “Logos” is translated as the “Word,” defined as the divine reason and order of the universe and used as the name for Christ in John’s Gospel (In the beginning was the Word…). Through his Passion, through our Compassion, we begin to comprehend a rightly ordered universe. Veronica’s cloth, given to her for her brave and generous action, is a logo of that divine order, a token of gratitude to someone who cared for the “least of these”.
Color is symbolic in each of my Stations pieces: Red = Points of pain; White = Movement of the Holy Spirit; Blue = God’s presence; Black = the weight of the cross; Neutrals = Humanity.
Pray: For those suffering from body dysmorphic disorders, that they may be freed from affliction and come to know they are “wonderfully and fearfully made”.
Action: Be conscious of criticizing your own body, as well as others (primarily your children). This is one way negative beliefs are passed on, especially among women.
