“Until One Has Loved An Animal” by Jen Norton. Acrylic on wood; 24 x 24 x 2.5″; $2600
Last summer I had to say goodbye to my beloved dog, Patti. Patti was a rescued boxer, extremely timid, and my animal soul mate. She was me at four years old, shy and tortured by her own fears. I’ve had other pets before, but she was my first dog, my constant companion … and confirmed me as a dog-lover! In her honor, and in gratefulness for all the happiness our favorite animals can bring to our lives, I’ve created a new piece of art inspired by the quote by Anatole France which reads, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” It’s hard not to be awakened by a creature who enthusiastically greets you EVERY time you come in the room, who listens to all your joys and heartaches, and is delighted by simple things like treats and car rides. As we approach Valentine’s Day and you find your heart belongs in part to an animal, this piece is for you!
